With camera and backpack in hand I spent today with some friends hiking along the coast of Duncans Cove located a short drive outside of Halifax. The day started off overcast gradually becoming sunny. This definitely changed the exposure of some of my photo shots. As the sun came out my shots were more balanced.

There are many hidden locations in or around the Halifax area for hiking or exploring! The natural sublime beauty of nature around Halifax is astounding! Many of the places are better than Peggy’s Cove. Peggy’s cove is overcrowded and over covered as far as media goes. It’s the hidden away little places (like Duncans Cove) that interest me!

Please feel free to leave any comments on my blog or on the Flickr page Enjoy!

Excellent!! Are you Canadian as well?
Halifax can be an absolutely amazing place to be…I’m at the opposite end of the country! Haven’t done the jumping out of airplanes thing…but I do love a good backpacking trip!

MJ: Thanks for the comment love! I am naturally a quiet and reserved person, but I push myself to go outside of my comfort level and do things I wouldn’t otherwise do. It helps me grow as a person - only when we push ourselves can we see what we are really capable of! Plus it makes an interesting conversation piece around the water cooler when someone asks “what did you do this week end”. hah

I have lived in Halifax all my life but like many other Haligonians (people who live in Halifax) we don’t really pay attention to the great places/venues we have around here. It takes a traveler from outside of Halifax to point these things out. In the morning I walk to work along the harbor front and see International warships, monster container ships, and sail boats/boats of all description. I also walk past a number of trains and see the Canadian Air Force Sea King helicopters overhead every other day. To me this is second nature - my visiting friend was blown away with how much I see in a 30 minutes walk to work. I never give it a second thought.

    You are from BC?

Those are some great shots. You’re making me feel lazy! I should really get out and do more of that stuff.

And I absolutely agree that I think the vast majority of Haligonians don’t realize how beautiful the city is. Which is why it’s such a shame to see it struggling. Walking down Barrington Street is just kind of depressing now. Seeing gravel parking lots instead of gorgeous buildings is sad, too.

Thanks for the concern…she’s of course certified and all that jazz…I’m just being cynical and difficult!!!

I’m not originally from BC…Ontario, then lived in the states, now in BC. I’ve been doing quite a bit of that “out of my comfort” level stuff too! Which is why I’m in BC in the first place….my family is 4000 miles away!

Joel: It’s sad to see the state of some parts of the city. People need to take an interest in their own city and keeping it beautiful. I saw a guy waiting at the bus stop with a tim’s cup, he had to throw the cup out before he got on the bus. The garbage can was 3 feet away, he threw it on the ground. He was too lazy to step three feet. There needs to be a city event/festival that everyone (majority of people) can get out to and have fun showcasing the city. Aside from the current international hockey stuff going on I don’t see a whole lot in the near future. The commonwealth games would have been great if we could have had them.

MJ: What was the catalyst that made you move out to BC? I mean, most people just don’t decide out of the blue it’s something they want to do.
